Please excuse my lack of German.. but hopefully there are some of you that can understand enough English to point me in the correct direction!

My name is Phil, and I live in Nottinghamshire in the UK.. I'm 54 and have been biking since I was 16. The wife and I both have cars but I also have 3 bikes.. we do local runs, weekend rallies etc but currently do not venture outside the UK. I have 2004 Triumph Bonneville, a 2004 Innova and a 2015 Royal Enfield 500 Classic. I commute 18 miles a day for work for about 2/3rd of the year.

As I'm loving the Enfield ride so much I'm using it as the main commuter, which has left the Innova under used. It has just blown a fork seal and soaked the disc with oil, so I needed to strip the front end down.

so.. I fancied doing something different, without being able to rebuild it as a standard Innova should I need to sell it. On the UK C90 Forum, there are some photos off a group of Innovas modified by a man called Reinhard from a trip to Mongolia. Does anyone have any links inside this forum or outside it to show in detail what he did?

Before you get fed up with the thread being 50 pages long, go to your control panel and change the number of posts per page.

I have it set to 50, and it works wonders for finding pictures in the mass of German chit-chat postings.

Go to http://www.honda-innova.de/ucp.php?i=uc ... &mode=view scroll all the way to the bottom and change the setting.

INTERESTING READING. :-)

on mu carb version of the Innova, there are 2 sets of wires going to the unit. one is a 'heater' (?) with 1 wire and the other pair of wires go to a switch screwed on to the carb.. any idea what this is for?

I'm asking because the wires will definitely get in the way if I ever do want to take it off tarmac, and I'd like to remove as many wires as I can.

basically a simple carb engine will run without any wiring. But to keep your Innova roadworthy you need, at minimum, a fuctional light, brakelight and winker. The rest you can remove it without any worries.

BBut to do so you need to study the circuit diagram to figure out what is essentiel and was not. But imho, its wastet time. Just check the board here for the "mongo bikes". This bikes was modified for going offroad/taff roads. And as far as I remembering they didnt change anything on the wiring. There is no crucial need to do so. Just remove the plastic. Thats enough.

this sounds you wan't to remove your Carb 'heater' that
prevent carburettor icing at low Temperatures.
That German called 'Vergaserheizung' Unit is a fine Feature in EU Innova's.
Better you keep it i suggest... :mrgreen:

PS: if you really wanna get rid of it, i got Keihins without it... :laugh2:

I may keep it then. I had a Honda C90 about 12 years ago that I used to commut on through the winter.. on one particularly snowy and wet evening the carb literally turned into a block of ice! I also had the same problem with a Mini car in the early 80's.. except the throttle froze on in the fully open position on the motorway!

carburettor heating is better than using Isopropanol.
Honda Quality..., What else?
Tell us please more of your Time with the C90... :danke:
They are very rare in Germany, some Guys where searching for it
last year here... If they got a valid MOT approval, MOT certificate
it should be possible for a approval in Germany.

you don't have the Honda C90 in Germany? what about the C50 or C70?

there is a thriving custom group over here making 'street cubs' but I know you have difficulties with you TUV.

they are a great work horse. 50mph top speed, 100mpg (what ever that is in litres per 100km!). easy to fix. the frames rot around the rear suspension area , but weld on sections can be bought.

they are only 3 speed though. The Innova is like its big brother. better in every way.

There really awesome rare in Germany. About 6 Pieces...
How many Zündapp's and Kreidler's you see in Nottinghamshire ? Next to Nothing!
German TÜV is not stronger than a MOT i think. German Law, made in Brussels...
it should be the same...

Hello Phil,

my name is Reinhard and I have made the conversions for last year's trip to Mongolia.
Coming weekend, three of us Mongo-riders will be at the Big Knock, the British Diesel motorcycle rally at Billingshurst.
We will arrive Friday morning and probably stay until Sunday afternoon. We won't be riding the Mongo-steeds, though...
If you fancy the trip down south we could have a long conversation about your plans.
If you take the Enfield you won't be the only one at the rally...

Hi Reinhard! unfortunately the mrs and I are away on Holiday this weekend at the other end of the country, but I'll certainly keep this thread going to pick your brains about your conversions if that is ok?

re the UKs MOT.. we are luckily still quite relaxed here, depending on where you go. I built a 'bobber' conversion 2 years ago from a Suzuki GN250. it ended up with no speedometer (I used my iphone), no indicators, no dashboard lights. But I had discussed the conversion with my MOT man as I went along. we can even have a Daylight Only MOT, which does not need headlights, just a brake light.

we don't even have any official decibel limit on exhausts at the moment.. it is up to the discretion of the MOT man.
